Acens Part of Telefónica Tech‘ has carried out a survey at street level to compare the opinions of users in relation to the functionality of websites for people with disabilities, indicating the lack of accessibility in websites and apps.

Like every November 10, World Usability Day was celebrated on this day with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of designing products and services that are easy to use for all people.

Based on data from RED.es, among the most requested queries by SMEs, those referring to digital marketing stand out and, in particular, those related to content creation, SEO and SEM positioning or E-Commerce, in addition to cloud solutions and collaborative work tools.

What do Internet users think?

For its part, regarding the need to improve digital marketing by SMEs, the observations of the public entity coincide with the results of the survey carried out at street level by acens.tv, which highlights how 85% of Internet users believe that the information on websites is inaccurate.

In addition to information, the other two aspects most valued by users when using the Internet are web usability and loading speed.

Regarding usability, online browsing fails in accessibility for 83% of the people surveyed, who affirm that websites and apps are not accessible to people with disabilities.

Likewise, the participants highlighted the Wikipedia website (100% of those surveyed) for its ease of use and the Instagram applications (33%), ahead of others such as Facebook, Twitter or TikTok.

Regarding the issue of speed, respondents have provided data of a total of 71% who believe that websites load quickly.

These data have also shown that 87% browse more with their mobile device. It is important, therefore, for companies to make sure that their website complies with responsive design standards.

Finally, 80% highlight the simplicity of the navigation menus of the sites.

Why is website accessibility so important for the user?

Accessible websites and applications not only improve the user experience for these people, but also increase the number of potential visitors and improve the usability of the web project.

While usability seeks to improve the user experience on web pages, web accessibility incorporates more actions to break down access barriers and make content accessible to everyone.

Additionally, accessible websites can load faster. Therefore, web and app accessibility is not only important for inclusion issues, but also has benefits for the business and the performance of the website or app.

Which are the companies that also give importance to accessibility?

For people who partially or completely depend on devices in various tasks in their daily lives, it is very important to have the correct accessibility tools on our website.

Leading companies such as Amazon periodically review the accessibility conditions on their websites and even on their products. The importance of maintaining a website accessible to any type of person lies not only in legality, but in the visibility and reputation of our brand.

Currently, more and more public or private companies are becoming aware every day of the need to offer these services on equal terms for all their users.
