With the growing relevance of digital accessibility and the European Accessibility Act (EAA) (June 2025) being already applied, football clubs that operate online stores within the European Union must ensure that their digital platforms are fully accessible to all people, including those with disabilities. To find out their current status, we have analyzed the web accessibility of the official stores of five of the most representative clubs in Spanish football, identifying their main barriers and level of regulatory compliance.
In this analysis, we evaluate the online stores of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla FC and Valencia CF, reviewing key aspects such as the correct use of headers, labels accessible in forms, identification of the language of the page, coherent navigation between sections and accessibility from mobile devices, among other fundamental criteria.
To carry out this ranking, the most representative sections of online stores were analyzed: the main page, product pages, contact or registration forms, and key elements of the purchasing process. The criteria evaluated include the possibility of navigation exclusively with keyboard, the presence of alternative descriptions in images, the appropriate semantic use of HTML, color contrast and the accessible structure of forms.
Atlético de Madrid
Atlético de Madrid opens this ranking with a score of 3.78, with its level of adequacy being “Invalid” and its situation considered as “Not compliant”. The site demonstrates good practice in textual alternatives and responsive layout, but faces significant barriers in multiple key areas.
Among the main problems detected are the incorrect header structure, with poorly applied or non-existent hierarchies, and the lack of labels on the forms, which prevents their correct interpretation by assistive technologies. Additionally, primary language identification is absent throughout the site, making navigation difficult for screen readers.
There are also failures in navigational consistency between sections, and links without clear descriptions, which reduces the inclusive user experience. Overall, although the club is at the forefront in this analysis, it is still far from the compliance required by EAA 2025.
FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona obtains a score of 3.60, and like Atlético de Madrid, does not reach the minimum level of adequacy required, being classified as “Non-compliant”.
The main flaws identified focus on the heading structure, which does not follow a logical hierarchy, as well as disorganized lists and without semantic markers. Furthermore, the forms lack accessible labels, which prevents disabled users from completing them independently.
The site also does not define the main language of the content, and has color contrast problems, especially in promotional banners and buttons. Despite having consistent navigation and responsive design, structural and semantic deficiencies keep it in a situation of non-compliance with current regulations.
Real Madrid CF
The official portal of Real Madrid is the one that obtains the highest score in the group (5.00), achieving level A of adequacy, and obtaining the status of “Partially compliant”, with level of adequacy “A”.
The report reveals repeated errors in the use of headings and lists, as well as forms without structure or associated labels, which directly affects the interaction capacity of users with visual or cognitive disabilities. Errors were also identified in the identification of the language, in the description of links and in the page titles.
On the positive side, the store stands out for the correct use of textual alternatives, technical compatibility, and a good implementation of adaptive layout and consistent navigation, which shows relevant progress. However, deficiencies in the essential aspects of level A compromise legal compliance in the short term.
Valencia CF
Valencia CF obtains a score of 4.50, remaining within the group of sites with Non-compliant’ status. Although its performance is better than that of Sevilla FC, it still has important deficiencies.
Among the most notable errors are those related to poorly applied textual alternatives, non-existent language identification and significant problems in forms, both in their structure and in the absence of clear labels.
Although the site scores positively in aspects such as the use of lists, the separation of content and presentation, and the general structure of the forms, these improvements are not enough to compensate for the shortcomings in the fundamental criteria of level A. Consequently, the store is still far from meeting the minimum digital accessibility standards required by the EAA.
Sevilla FC
Sevilla FC presents the lowest score in this analysis: 3.50, and a general status “Not compliant”, with a site that does not meet any of the fundamental criteria of level A, except in specific aspects.
The deficiencies detected are numerous: non-existent or poorly applied headers, lists without semantic structure, inaccessible forms, undeclared language, absence of clear titles on the pages and inconsistent navigation. Furthermore, technical compatibility and device independence are also compromised.
The only aspect that remains at acceptable levels is the use of multiple navigation lanes, but this is insufficient to compensate for the systematic non-compliance with the rest of the criteria. The club will have to undertake a thorough review of its online store if it wants to comply with European legislation in 2025.
