South Western Railway, a British train operating company, recently equipped two of its stations in London with technology that could make it easier for people with vision loss to find the correct way to the platform.
What is MyEyes?
At Vauxhall and Putney stations in central London, some small Bluetooth devices have been placed which, when combined with a smartphone app (called myEyes), provide audio instructions that guide users from the entrance to the assisted boarding points on the platforms.
It should be mentioned that assisted boarding points are exclusive meeting points at all stations managed by South Western Railway, where people who require assistance can show up and depart 10 minutes in advance, whether due to mobility or visual problems, luggage or a hidden disability.
This system, which for now only works on iPhone, will be tested for a few weeks. He will give instructions to know in which direction the stairs, elevators or the location of the ticket office are, among others.
This company’s accessibility team called on Londoners to try this solution and, in the process, send their feedback to the company.
