VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template)

Document the accessibility conformance of your digital products.

The VPAT is the standard document that technology companies use to declare the level of accessibility conformance of their products with accessibility standards (Section 508, EN 301 549, WCAG 2.2). We help you produce it with technical rigour.

What is a VPAT?

The VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is the de facto standard used by software vendors, SaaS platforms and technology providers to communicate the accessibility level of their products. Governments such as the United States require it in public procurements under Section 508, and the European Union accepts it as evidence of conformance with EN 301 549.

Our team of certified auditors evaluates your product criterion by criterion using the VPAT® version 2.5 template from ITIC, documenting the support level (Supports, Partially Supports, Does Not Support, Not Applicable) for each technical requirement. The result is an ACR (Accessibility Conformance Report) you can present to clients, regulators and procurement teams.

A VPAT is not just a compliance document: it is a strategic tool that demonstrates your company's commitment to accessibility, opens doors to public contracts and reinforces client trust.

  • 1

  • 2

Required by governments and large corporations in public procurement.

  • 3

Standardised format by ITIC (Information Technology Industry Council).

Covers WCAG 2.2, Section 508 (US), EN 301 549 (Europe) and additional criteria.

  • 5

Updated with each relevant product version to reflect accessibility improvements.

How we
work.

A methodical process to produce an accurate and defensible ACR.

1

Scope and planning

We define which product, version and platforms will be evaluated. We identify critical user flows and relevant assistive technologies.

2

Technical evaluation

Our auditors analyse each applicable WCAG 2.2 / EN 301 549 / Section 508 criterion. We combine automated testing with manual screen reader review.

3

ACR drafting

We document each criterion in ITIC VPAT® 2.5 format, with support level, technical remarks and evidence. We include prioritised improvement recommendations.

4

Review and delivery

We review the report with your technical team, incorporate clarifications and deliver the final ACR ready for publication or client submission.

5

Periodic updates

After each relevant release, we update the VPAT to reflect implemented improvements. We maintain a version history.

Advantages

Why you need a VPAT.

A VPAT opens commercial doors and reduces legal risks.

[01]

Access to public procurement

US, EU and other governments require a VPAT/ACR in software tenders. Without one, your product is excluded.

[02]

Enterprise client trust

Large corporations assess accessibility before purchasing. A professional VPAT accelerates the sales cycle and differentiates your product.

[03]

Regulatory compliance

Demonstrates conformance with Section 508, EN 301 549, WCAG 2.2 and the European Accessibility Act in a documented, auditable manner.

[04]

Improvement roadmap

The process identifies accessibility gaps with prioritised recommendations, helping your development team plan improvements.

[05]

Competitive advantage

In crowded markets, an up-to-date VPAT signals maturity and inclusion commitment, setting you apart from undocumented competitors.

[06]

Legal risk reduction

An up-to-date ACR is key evidence against accessibility claims or regulatory audits.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know.

Any company selling software, SaaS platforms or digital products to governments or large corporations. It is especially relevant for US (Section 508) and European (EN 301 549) markets.
It depends on product complexity. A typical web application: 3-4 weeks. A complex product suite: 6-8 weeks. This includes evaluation, drafting and review.
It is recommended to update it with each major product version or at least once a year. Clients and public bodies expect up-to-date VPATs.
VPAT is the template (the format). ACR (Accessibility Conformance Report) is the completed document with your specific product evaluation results. They are often used interchangeably.
It is voluntary in origin, but in practice it is a de facto requirement for selling to public administrations and large corporations that demand accessibility evidence in their procurement processes.
